Wheeled units generally travel faster on firm pavement and cost less to maintain, while crawler carriers provide lower ground pressure and better traction on mud, sand, slopes and finished lawns. If the machine will move between paved and soft sites, compare transport weight and trailer requirements as well as track life.

Check rated capacity and lift path

Match rated operating capacity to the heaviest attachment and material, not only to the nominal bucket load. Confirm tipping load, rated capacity and hydraulic auxiliary flow together.

Plan attachments before ordering

A skid steer is usually selected as an attachment platform. Prepare the machine tonnage, auxiliary flow, pressure and coupler standard before choosing buckets, pallet forks, grapples, augers, sweepers or snow equipment. Ask whether hoses, couplers and controls are included for each attachment.
